Meals

Malibu C.A.R.T. supports ongoing dinner and lunch programs through both donations and volunteer power. Meals are critical in recognizing the importance of humanitarian efforts. Through meals, we establish conversation, trust and the critically needed communication needed to properly understand the needs of each individual in order to help him/her take a step forward towards a better life for him/her. If you’re interested in assisting with providing for or serving a meal, please let us know. Likewise, for details, including location and times, please contact us

Connect Day

Date: October 7, 2021
Location: Old Court House

COMING UP!
THURS, Oct 7th @10am

Collaborating with local State, Federal, County and City agencies as well as non-profit groups and service-providers, Connect Day provides information, applications and assistance in navigating these services – all in one place, in one day, for those experiencing homelessness. The support of such organizations as County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, City of Malibu, Department of Public Social Services, L.A. Homeless Services Authority, Veteran’s Association, Department of Mental Health, and many others help make this complicated process much more manageable. Connect Day is a one-stop-shop for those who are otherwise subject to multiple trips and phone calls coupled with limited access to the supplies and information needed to successfully receive these resources. In addition to social services, health and dental screenings guests are also offered showers, haircuts, and basic humane supplies including socks, underwear, clean clothes and toothbrushes. Connect Days are scheduled approximately twice annually.

Please reach out to us if you are aware of additional services we can offer that may be helpful, or if you can volunteer to offer a service on Connect Day.

Mobile Eye Clinic

Malibu C.A.R.T. had previously partnered with UCLA’s Mobile Eye Clinic for several years to provide twice yearly services. Unfortunately that grant has expired. We are investigating other sources for this valuable service. We welcome a partnership to be able to provide this again. If you have resources or are aware of a program that may allow us to offer assistance, please to reach out — we’d love your help or the opportunity to collaborate with another group!

Mobile Laundry Van

Make clean laundry a reality for those who don’t have access to laundry facilities. Being able to regularly wash what we have and wear is not only a basic need, but also contributes to more comfortable and confident self-assurance.

Since this is a “wish list” program, any donations made to it will be earmarked and saved for this program.

We evaluate all funds regularly. If after 6 months of your donation our wish list item has not raised its goal, we will let you know and give you the opportunity to either continue as donated or re-allocate the donation to a different program of your choice.

Always feel free to reach out to us with questions/contacts/suggestions for a program.

Mobile Shower Van

Help deliver hygiene rekindle dignity and unlock opportunity for people experiencing homelessness. We’ve been able to secure Lava Mae’s Mobile Shower Van for occasions such as Connect Day, however, we’d like to regularly have a shower van available for use locally. We estimate having the shower vans once a week would cost approximately $800 per month. The cost is particularly challenging due to our septic system here in Malibu, but with help, it’s possible to provide this opportunity for those most in need.

Since this is a “wish list” program, any donations made to it will be earmarked and saved for this program.

Care Package

Like a meal, a care package can be many things depending on the need. When individuals or families are re-homed, there is a list of items needed to operate on a daily basis such as bath towels, linens, blankets, even laundry soap and dishes. A care package may be part of a move-in, or it may be access to a computer for those who are also continuing their education as they’ve accomplished that big step of having a home once again.

Storage Unit

Having the ability to store one’s possessions safely and securely is a wonderful thing. We have friends in need who have had trouble taking or keeping a job because leaving their belongings unsecured means losing them any time they go in to work. Have a storage unit with set access hours would be helpful for anyone who does not have a secure space in which to keep their few belongings.
